WASHINGTON – America’s Credit Unions President/CEO Scott Simpson Tuesday called on Senate Banking Committee leadership to “move ahead expeditiously and advance” the nomination of John Crews to serve on the NCUA board.

Simpson noted Crews’ previous experience, including his current role as Treasury Deputy Assistant for Financial Institutions Policy, as qualifying him for the board.
“In those positions, America’s Credit Unions and its predecessor organizations worked closely with Mr. Crews and found him to be well versed in critical policy with an aptitude to swiftly understand and engage with our issues, which often impact underserved communities, families, and small businesses in America,” Simpson said.
Simpson and Senior Vice President of Advocacy Greg Mesack met with Crews in April in his capacity at Treasury to discuss modernizing credit union regulations and the importance of strong preemption authority for credit unions as states consider various interchange fee prohibition measures.
Crews would take the seat currently held by Chairman Kyle Hauptman, whose term expired in August 2025. While litigation regarding the dismissal of two NCUA Board members is ongoing, Simpson urged the committee that “uncertainty surrounding the other two seats should not factor in the decision as to whether Mr. Crews should be confirmed to serve on the NCUA board.”
“Confirmation of Mr. Crews would provide stability at the NCUA…The Committee has always held a strong commitment to robust leadership at our financial regulators, and the timely confirmation of Mr. Crews will continue that trend," Simpson said.
