DUBUQUE, Iowa–Alliant Credit Union announced it is changing its name effective Jan. 1, 2022.
The $188-million CU said it intends to change its name to AIM Credit Union, an abbreviation for its fields of membership.
Alliant called the name change an “evolution” that allows for future growth in all the segments it serves, including Alliant Energy, Industries, Medical professionals, labor unions, educators, and many other employee groups in Iowa and Wisconsin.
“Alliant Credit Union has continually evolved in the 89 years since our inception in 1933,” the CU said in a statement on its website. “We have welcomed several new employers and other groups to our field of membership. Our Alliant Credit Union is now the largest closed field of membership credit union in Iowa! We feel now is an opportune time to recognize our evolution and growth. To reflect the entirety of our membership, our board has made the decision to change the name of our credit union to ensure future growth and our focus on our members.”
The credit union was formerly known as Interstate Credit Union until changing to Alliant Credit Union in 1999.
Alliant has more than 11,000 members.
Another credit union uses the same name, the $14.6-billion Alliant CU in Chicago.
