Alliant CU Boosts Rewards On Its Card Offering

CHICAGO—In the face of stiff rewards competition from the major card issuers, Alliant Credit Union has boosted rewards on its Visa Platinum Rewards card.

The no-fee credit card now delivers two rewards points for every $1 spent on all purchases, up from one point, reported Bankrate.com, which ranked the card among the best deals in the country.

The increase comes after last month's launch of the Alliant Cashback Visa Signature card, which offers the highest flat cash back rate available – 3% back on all purchases in the first year, and 2.5% after that, Bankrate.com noted.

The Cashback Visa Signature card also comes with a $59 fee that is waived for the first year.

The beefed-up payout on the Visa Platinum Rewards card is matched only by one other card – Citi Double Cash. The Citi card pays out 1% on purchases and 1% when bills are paid on time, Bankrate.com reported.

Other highlights of Alliant’s Visa Platinum card include:

  • A 5,000-point bonus after spending $500 within the first three billing cycles.
  • A 12-month, 0-percent introductory APR offer on purchases and balance transfers. After that, the variable rate is 13.99% to 23.99%.
  • No balance transfer fees.
  • Flexible redemption options. Points can be redeemed for cash back, travel, gift cards or merchandise.
