Alleged 79-Year-Old Robber Said He Was Looking To Pay For Food, Rent

HOLIDAY, Fla.–A 79-year-old man who said he was looking to pay for food and his rent has been arrested here and charged with robbing a branch of Suncoast Credit Union at which he had once been a member.

The Pasco County (Fla.) Sheriff’s Office said they arrested Vincent Anthony Ianellia, 79, just 21 minutes after he allegedly robbed the branch of the credit union near the Travel Inn at which he had been staying. The manager of the hotel told WFLA.com that Ianellia was the “nicest” tenant at the hotel.

According to the Sheriff’s Office, Ianellia took a cab to the CU, calmly walked in and handed the teller a note saying he was robbing the credit union.

“He actually used to bank at this institution, so he knew the employees there, started having small talk with them, as he was robbing them,” Kevin Doll, with the Pasco County Sheriff’s Office, told WFLA.com.

The sheriff’s office said the cab driver, who had no idea what was going on, drove Ianellia back to the motel after the robbery, where he paid the bill.

The Pasco Sheriff’s Office said Ianellia told deputies he robbed the credit union to buy food and pay his motel bill, according to WFLA.com.
