All 19 CU-Backed Candidates in This Week’s Primaries Won Races

WASHINGTON—All 19 credit-union backed candidates have won their primary races in this week’s elections in Ohio and Indiana, according to CUNA. The candidates had financial support from the respective state leagues as well as the Credit Union Legislative Action Council (CULAC), CUNA’s federal political action committee.

Among the candidates backed by credit unions who won their races was Rep. Shontel Brown (D-OH), who defeated Democratic primary challenger Nina Turner 65% to 35%. CUNA and the Ohio Credit Union League have supported Brown since her first special election to fill the seat in November 2021, CUNA noted. The seat had previously been held by Marcia Fudge, who was appointed by President Biden to lead HUD.

As of this week, 42 out of 43 credit union-backed candidates have been successful in the 2022 cycle, according to CUNA.
