Alabama Teachers CU Announces New Name, Branding

GASDEN, Ala.–Alabama Teachers Credit Union has announced a new name and branding. Effective in October, the $531-million ATCU will begin operating as Emblem Credit Union.

The 65-year-old credit union expanded its field of membership in 2001 and currently serves any individual living, working or attending school in Calhoun, Cherokee, DeKalb, Etowah and Marshall counties.

“The commitment to all those in the community needed to be represented by a new, more engaging name,” the credit union said in a statement. “Emblem is a clear way of communicating that the credit union is here to serve more members and serve them even better.”

The new name was announced at the credit union’s recent annual meeting.

‘Trusted Partner’

“Our new name really signifies the way we have always served our members and our communities,” said CEO Ron Summerall. “Emblem is a new way of communicating what we have been and remain committed to – being a trusted partner for our long-term as well as our future members.”

Reason for Name

According to the credit union, the name “Emblem,” which is defined as a mark of individual and collective distinction, “embodies the experiences of the people and places that make Alabama such a unique place to live and work. It is a reflection of ATCU’s values of people learning and growing together.”

The credit union has more than 29,000 members.
