After Cancelling Deal to Buy Bank in Georgia, VyStar Opens First Branch in Peach State

THOMASVILLE, Ga.–VyStar Credit Union has opened its first branch in Georgia. The new branch is 160 miles northwest of VyStar’s Jacksonville, Fla. headquarters and is located in Thomasville, Georgia.

VyStar noted its recently expanded field of membership in Georgia includes 26 counties in the South, Southeast and Metro Atlanta regions. Earlier this year, the credit union opened a new branch to the South in Titusville, Fla., and said it plans to open additional Florida branches this year in Florida in  The Villages, Melbourne, Lake Mary and Tallahassee. VyStar said it also plans to open additional Georgia branches in the future.

VyStar has planned a significantly larger presence in Georgia, but as CUToday.info reported here, in June it called off its acquisition of Heritage Southeast Bank in Jonesboro, Ga., as a result of the crash of its online and mobile banking solutions, which was a significant issue that generated a great deal of media coverage and which VyStar said has now been resolved.

The Thomasville, Ga., branch is its 65th, with VyStar saying it features its “digital-forward design concept, including interactive touchscreen kiosks.

‘Incredibly Meaningful Day’

“The official opening of our Thomasville branch marks an incredibly meaningful day for VyStar,” said VyStar EVP/Chief Operations Officer Chad Meadows. “As we take this next step into the Southeast, we look forward to growing our 70-year history as a strong financial institution by building new partnerships, making meaningful connections and strengthening the communities we serve. In doing so, we live out our purpose, which is to ‘Do Good’.”

In conjunction with the opening, VyStar said it contributed $5,000 to Thomas University. In addition, in September, VyStar employees will partner with Thomasville-Thomas County Habitat for Humanity for a day of volunteer work. VyStar will continue working with Thomas University, as well as the Thomasville Chamber of Commerce, to build relationships within the community and to give back to causes that enhance the city.
