After 50 Years in CUs, COPOCO Community CU’s Doan to Retire

BAY CITY, Mich.–After 50 years with COPOCO Community Credit Union, CEO Linda L. Doan has announced plans to retire.

Linda Doan

Doan began with the now $121-million credit union in 1971 as a part-time teller through the co-op program at TL Handy High School. At that time, there were four employees, according to the Michigan league. During her career, Doan has managed four credit unions: Bay City Electrical Workers Credit Union, Bay City Postal Credit Union, Bay County Employees Federal Credit Union and COPOCO CCU.

She also serves as treasurer on the CCCU board.

“In 1986, after working in every aspect of the credit union, Doan was selected as the president/CEO. In this role, she oversaw the mergers of Bay City Postal Federal Credit Union, Bay County Area Credit Union, Bay City Electrical Workers Credit Union, Bay Electric Federal Credit Union and Mid-Michigan Family Credit Union,” the MCUL reported. “In addition, she found ways to expand and grow COPOCO CCU: in 2002 with the change to a community designation to serve more counties, and in 2013 opening a third location in the Valley Center Technology Park in Monitor Township.”

COPOCO CU currently has 36 employees.

Long-Time Advocate

“Doan…has been a longtime advocate in promoting employee volunteerism in the community, leading by example and dedicating many hours to the American Cancer Society,” the league said.

Doan has further served on the Michigan Advisory Council for Credit Unions under the direction of the Department of Insurance and Financial Services and as Treasurer of the Michigan Association of Credit Unions.

“As a young girl growing up on a farm, I never thought I would have the opportunities that COPOCO CCU has provided me and my family,” Doan told the Michigan league. “I am forever grateful for the time I have spent at COPOCO CCU. It has been an opportunity of a lifetime and I will miss my COPOCO CCU family very much.”
