‘Admired, Respected and Cherished:’ TDECU’s Henderson Passes Away

LAKE JACKSON, Texas–Lucilla Henderson, vice president of community and business engagement with TDECU–Your Credit Union here, has died.

Ms. Henderson was described by the credit union as “admired, respected and cherished.”

“Lucilla was a cornerstone of TDECU’s leadership team for over a decade, having served as vice president of marketing and most recently as vice president of community and business engagement,” said TDECU–Your Credit Union in a statement. “She embodied the credit union’s core purpose of improving lives, and her positive influence and remarkable commitment was a powerful force felt throughout the organization. But it is Lucilla’s joyful spirit and unwavering kindness that are sure to be missed the most by all those who had the pleasure of knowing her.”
TDECU said that for more than 35 years Henderson served the community with various board positions, including with the Brazoria County Association for Children with Handicaps, Junior Achievement, SPCA, and City of Lake Jackson Parks and Development. She was also an active member of St. Michael’s Catholic Church Youth Ministry and a dedicated supporter of the Brazosport Chamber of Commerce and Alliance of Brazoria County Economic Development.

Henderson was recognized for accomplishments throughout her career, including selection to the Brazoria College Board of Regents, Female Executive of the Year from the Houston Hispanic Chamber of Commerce, and as a two-time Paul Harris Fellow with Rotary International. 

"I've known Lucilla for all of my 15 years in Texas – first as a community partner, then as a TDECU team member, and also as a fellow parent of classmates,” said TDECU President and CEO Stephanie Sherrodd. “I’m honored to have known her. Lucilla’s grace and smooth exterior were coupled with true grit and determination in achieving her goals. She loved her co-workers, her team, and she loved what we stand for as a community partner. We are a better organization because she worked here, and I am a better person for having her in my life.”

Henderson is survived by her high school sweetheart and husband and three children.
