Additional Details Released In CFO Abduction, Robbery Attempt

NEW BRITAIN, Conn.—New details are emerging in the abduction/robbery attempt involving the CFO of Achieve Financial Credit Union here.

The police said a suitcase, a duffel bag and garbage bags were found inside the car that Matthew Yussman, CFO at Achieve Financial CU, drove to the credit union as part of the failed robbery attempt in which he was wearing what was thought to be an explosives-vest, according to a search warrant that was unsealed and reported by the New Britain Herald.

Yussman has said that two robbers had invaded his home on the previous evening and were holding his mother captive while he was sent to rob the credit union. Yussman called the credit union’s CEO, who in turn dialed 911, helping to foil the plot. A copy of the 911 transcript can be found here.

The New Britain Herald reported that police believe the suitcase and bags were intended to hold the cash that Yussman was supposed to get from two of Achieve Financial’s branches. In all, the New Britain police have obtained 11 search warrants, including 10 that seek cellphone records and tower information. Yussman allegedly exchanged texts with the would-be robbers.

Both Yussman and his mother escaped the robbery attempt unharmed.
