EDGEWOOD, Md.–Aberdeen Proving Ground FCU has expanded its field of membership to the Greater Baltimore market.
The $2-billion credit union announced it will now open up membership to anyone who lives, works, worships, volunteers or attends school in Baltimore County and Baltimore City. Previously, membership was only open to those who lived in Harford and Cecil counties in Maryland.
Businesses and other legal entities located in Baltimore County and Baltimore City are also eligible for membership.
In a statement, CEO Don W. Lewis said the expansion is the next logical move for the credit union as it continues to grow. APG is the third-largest credit union in Greater Baltimore and fifth-largest in Maryland. It has approximately 147,608.
According to NCUA data, APGFCU reported its assets have grown 37% since March 2019, while membership is up 7% during that time.
‘Member Owned and Member Driven’
"We are member owned and member driven," Lewis said. "Our members are our shareholders and we are governed by a volunteer board of directors, elected by our members. The focus of our cooperative is on people helping people. We are not driven by profit."
APG has 15 branches spanning across Harford and Cecil counties, with two locations in close proximity to the Baltimore County line in Edgewood and Fallston.
The credit union was formed in 1938.
