SIOUX FALLS, S.D.–The ATM Industry Association (ATIMA) has released a new slideshow it said is designed to illustrate the steps taken by the industry to raise awareness of cash access and safety throughout the COVID-19 crisis.
As CUToday.info reported here, ATMIA has been working to respond to what it has called a “devastating” situation as fewer people use ATMs during the coronavirus pandemic.
According to the ATMIA, the slideshow highlights a wide range of activities that manufacturers, ATM deployers and others have put in place, and also includes a graphic provided by James Shepherd-Barron, son of the inventor of the ATM and graphics supplied by Grant Victor Companies.
Actions featured range from good deeds in support of first responders, blog posts and factual messages to help promote cash and ATM safety, as well as the introduction of industry sanitizing solutions, the organization said.
‘Early Misconceptions’
The ATMIA said despite “early misconceptions surrounding cash during the COVID-19 crisis,” new studies show “only one in 10 people considering it ‘unsafe’ and one in four calling it ‘very safe.” The organization further pointed to a statement from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention’s (CDC) that surfaces are not the main way Coronavirus spreads has also helped to bolster confidence in cash in the United States.
“We are extremely proud of the initiatives our members have taken to help raise awareness and promote the safety of employees and ATM users,” said ATMIA CEO Mike Lee.
