A Different Way To Think of Back-To-School Drive

CANTON, Ohio–Lots of credit unions do back to school drives, but Stark Federal Credit Union has found a unique way to message what it is doing.

The $118-million SFCU has launched a campaign around www.onemillionsheets.com at which people can vote for their favorite school to win one-million sheets of paper. Voting is open through Sept. 17.

“We were looking for ways to help local schools,” Marketing Manager Tod Lackey told The Suburbanite.  “Stark Federal Credit Union was actually started by educators in Plain Local Schools in 1961. So we asked teachers, principals, ‘How can we help?’ The teachers said they are always running out of paper. So, we thought this would be a fun thing to do.”

The goal is to address an operational cost every school faces.

The Surbanite reported the contest is open to more than 100 public and private schools in Stark and Carroll counties in Ohio. The winning school, not school district, will receive 500,000 sheets of paper. Second and third place schools will each get 250,000 sheets of paper.

“All voting will be done online,” Lackey was quoted as saying. “Each person will get one vote (each computers URL will be cookied.) To vote, you will go to www.onemillionsheets.com or you can type in www.1millionsheets.com. Then you will go to their Facebook page to vote. You cannot vote in person at a Stark Federal Credit Union.”

Lackey said the contest could become an annual event.
