ST. PETERSBURG, Fla.–Members from eight credit unions have been selected as winners of PSCU’s seventh annual Credit Union Magic Minute, and will now compete to see how much they can grab from a warehouse stacked with thousands of items, ranging from electronics and toys to kitchenware and household products – all in 60 seconds.
The promotion, which PSCU said it launched to help its credit unions build even more tight-knit relationships with members, ran from October through early November, with the winners selected from credit unions across the country – including one team participating on behalf of a charity of their choice. The winners have received an all-expense-paid trip for two to Chicago from Dec. 4-6, 2019, and during the “Credit Union Magic Minute” will have 60 seconds to load their shopping cart with all they can.
PSCU said it’s part of the broader effort to create “unforgettable member experience through its rewards program.”
How Program Worked
PSCU owner credit unions participated in the company’s rewards program, with members automatically enrolled in the sweepstakes. PSCU said cardholders in its CURewards average six to seven more transactions per month and 30% higher spend throughout the year than non-rewards cardholders.
“We know reward offerings are widespread and popular among today’s consumers – 75% receive some type of rewards or benefits on their credit and/or debit card, according to a recent survey by PSCU,” said Tom Pierce, chief marketing officer at PSCU. “Cash back was reported as the most common reward consumers currently have, but the same survey revealed they want choice in their rewards offerings. When asked what type of reward or benefit would encourage them to use their primary card more often, six in 10 wanted something other than cash back. The Credit Union Magic Minute gives our owner credit unions a unique way to strengthen the bond between credit unions and their members.”
The Winners
2019 Credit Union Magic Minute winners were selected from the following credit unions:
- Andrews Federal Credit Union, Suitland, Md.
- Baltimore County Employees FCU, Baltimore
- Baxter Credit Union, Vernon Hills, Ill.
- Listerhill Credit Union, Muscle Shoals, Ala.
- Tinker Federal Credit Union, Tinker Air Force Base, Okla.
- TruStone Financial Federal Credit Union, Minneapolis
- Wanigas Credit Union, Saginaw, Mich.
Running for Charity
Each winning member is being permitted to bring along a guest of his or her choosing to take part in the festivities as teams load up their carts with dozens of items like computers, TVs, game systems, cookware, cameras, tablets and more, PSCU said.
In addition, the credit union with the highest sweepstakes participation among members, along with demonstrating its marketing efforts to promote the campaign, was rewarded with the opportunity to run for a non-profit organization of its choice. American Airlines FCU in Dallas will be running for the American Airlines Family Fund this year.
APCI Federal Credit Union in Lehigh Valley, Penn. and Hiway FCU in St. Paul, Minn. were runners-up and will each receive one item of valuable merchandise to provide to the charities of their choice.
