3 Workers Injured In Structural Collapse At Building Site of Navy Federal Facility

PENSACOLA, Fla.–Three construction workers were injured following a structural collapse here at a building that is part of an expansion of Navy Federal Credit Union’s offices.

The accident occurred as part of Navy Federal’s Phase Two expansion project at its Heritage Oaks campus. The three workers were transported to Sacred Heart hospital after falling approximately 25 feet after the floor they were working on collapsed. The men were employees of Hansel Phelps. According to Navy Federal, several others also sought treatment.

“Just after 5 a.m. an accident occurred in the rooftop structure of Navy Federal Credit Union’s Phase Two expansion project at its Heritage Oaks campus in Pensacola,” Navy FCU said in a statement. “The accident took place in a construction zone, outside of Navy Federal’s current employee workspace. Hensel Phelps Construction employees were working on the project when the accident took place…Construction has been suspended in the immediate area of the accident pending a full comprehensive review of the incident.”

According to local reports, one worker suffered spinal injuries and two others suffered minor injuries when the top floor of a building collapsed.
