MARLBOROUGH, Mass.–Three credit unions in Massachusetts are providing assistance to first responders and care providers during the coronavirus pandemic.
Among their efforts, which were compiled and first reported by the Cooperative Credit Union Association:
- Freedom Credit Union in Springfield, Mass., has donated $40,000 to three local hospitals: Baystate Medical Center, Mercy Medical Center, and Cooley Dickinson Hospital. In addition, the credit union donated $5,000 to help “stuff the bus” to Feed the Fight, a “Peter Pan Bus Lines program. With food supplied by the Bean Restaurant Group, the Peter Pan Bus delivers lunches to first responders and front-line workers throughout the Pioneer Valley.
- In Revere, Mass., after Revere Municipal Employees Federal Credit Union learned City Café workers preparing meals for disadvantaged neighbors had exhausted their supply of antiseptic wipes, CEO John Kingston responded by promptly sharing some of the wipes the credit union had recently received from the Cooperative Credit Union Association, which originally were purchased for events cancelled due to the pandemic. The credit union has also surprised members at its new “walk-up” window with ceramic car coasters.
- In Taunton, Mass., Taunton FCU partnered with Devito’s Pizzeria, which has been partnering with local businesses and organizations to provide food to those working on the front lines during the COVID-19 Pandemic. As a result of this effort, TFCU was able to provide the entire staff at Marian Manor Skilled Nursing and Rehabilitative Care with lunch and dinner to thank them for their services during this time.

The credit union has also donated $1,065 to Hope Center of Rapid City to help cover operations. The Hope Center provides crucial services for those living in poverty and without homes. Additionally, BHFCU employees donated thousands of much-needed supplies, including toilet paper, diapers, soap, detergent and more.
In addition, BHFCU donated $5,000 to the Monument Health COVID-19 Medical Response Fund, which will be used exclusively to purchase the resources needed to help treat patients and keep caregivers healthy.
