23 ‘Exceptional Leaders’ Named to CU House Hall of Leaders; New Board Members Elected

WASHINGTON – Twenty-three credit union champions have been inducted into the Credit Union House Hall of Leaders in honor of their “significant contributions” to the credit union community.

The ceremony took place at the Marriott Marquis in conjunction with CUNA’s GAC.

“Members of the Hall of Leaders are exceptional individuals that have dedicated their lives to perpetuating the credit union mission and philosophy,” the organization said.   

“The Credit Union House Hall of Leaders provides lasting recognition at the Capitol Hill facility for outstanding leaders whose work has made a significant impact on the credit union movement at the local, state, or national level,” said Patrick La Pine, Credit Union House chair and CEO of the League of Southeastern Credit Unions & Affiliates. “Each of these leaders made incredible contributions that have had a tremendous influence on our movement.”

The Inductees

The 2023 inductees are:

  • Tom Boos, president/CEO of Billings Federal Credit Union (Mont.)
  • Paul J. Brucker, president/CEO of Railway Credit Union (N.D.)
  • Tony Budet, retiring president/CEO of UFCU (Texas)
  • Patty Campbell, president/CEO Christian Financial Credit Union (Mich.)
  • Mark Cummins, president/CEO of Minnesota Credit Union Network
  • Michael Daugherty, president/manager of Community Plus Credit Union (Ill.)
  • John D. Deese, former president/CEO of Guardians Credit Union (Fla.)
  • Tom DeWitt, former president/CEO of State Farm Federal Credit Union (Ill.)
  • Steve Edgerton, Government Affairs Officer, Centris Credit Union (Neb.)
  • Gary Furtado, former president/CEO Navigant Credit Union (R.I.)
  • Mary Hansen, CEO of Mayo Employees Credit Union (Minn.)
  • Tracie Kenyon, president/CEO Montana’s Credit Unions

Credit Union House Elects New Board 

In addition, Credit Union House held its 22nd Annual Meeting, during which it named directors to the board for the 2023-2024 term.

Patty Corkery, president/CEO of Michigan Credit Union League & Affiliates, was elected as its newest board director. Additionally, two directors were re-elected to the board: Patrick Conway, president/CEO of the CrossState Credit Union Association, and Troy Stang, president/CEO of the GoWest Credit Union Association.

Brett Thompson, president/CEO of the Wisconsin Credit Union League, stepped down at the meeting after 14 years of service on the board.

“The Credit Union House board and staff thank Brett Thompson for his service. Although his tenure has concluded, I know Brett will remain a steadfast supporter of the ‘home away from home’ on Capitol Hill,” said Patrick La Pine, CU House chair. 

Directors serve two-year terms.

The 2023-24 Board

  • Troy Stang, President/CEO of the Northwest Credit Union Association, Vice Chair
  • Patrick Conway, President/CEO of CrossState Credit Union Association, Treasurer
  • Diana Dykstra, president/CEO of the California and Nevada Credit Union Leagues, Secretary
  • Patty Corkery, president/CEO of Michigan Credit Union League & Affiliates, Director
