2020 To Arrive With Celebration, Thanks to One CU

DETROIT–2020 will arrive here on time after all, thanks to a local credit union.

Michigan First Credit Union has stepped up to sponsor the “Motor City New Year's Eve: The Drop” celebration after the event had been cancelled due to the lack of sponsorship. The credit union will now have title sponsorship on the event where Detroiters will be able to ring in the New Year with the giant ceremonial "D" on New Year’s Eve.

"We are excited to help bring Motor City New Year's Eve: The Drop back to Detroit in 2020, and that we're able to help it remain a free public event," said Michigan First CU President/CEO Michael Poulos in a statement. "Michigan First is dedicated to Detroit and the surrounding communities and we think area residents deserve a great New Year's Eve celebration."

The Drop was founded in 2009 by a number of people as a means of celebrating the new year. In its first year the Drop attracted 3,000 people; the most recent even drew more than 30,000.
