CHADDS FORD, Penn.—Franklin Mint Federal Credit Union’s website and digital banking remained unavailable Tuesday, with the outage stretching into a second day amid an unusual problem involving the credit union’s internet domain. Philadelphia’s WPVI reported that members have been unable to access the $2.2-billion credit union’s website or mobile app and have expressed concerns about their accounts.
WPVI reported that FMFCU’s main website was instead displaying an offer to purchase the domain for $10,000 through GoDaddy. The station said records indicated the domain appeared to have been re-registered at 2:17 p.m. Monday and was under the control of a person possibly located in Saudi Arabia.
CUToday.info attempted to access the credit union's website Tuesday afternoon, but was met with an alert stating the site could not be reached.
FMFCU acknowledged the problem on its Facebook page, saying its main domain, fmfcu.org, “is experiencing technical issues” that are affecting its consumer website. The credit union’s Facebook page and telephone hotline said it was working to restore service, according to WPVI. No information has been released indicating whether the domain problem resulted from a cyberattack or whether member information or funds have been affected.
CUToday.info has reached out to the credit union for comment.
