LACKAWANNA, N.Y.–Two masked men leaped over the counter of a credit union here and sprayed two tellers with an unknown substance before making off with two duffel bags of cash, according to police and the FBI.
The robbery took place at Southtowns Community FCU’s office at 3040 South Park Ave., said Maureen Dempsey, a spokesperson for the FBI Buffalo office.
According to investigators, the two men wore hoodies, gloves and partial face masks that showed their eyes and mouths as they entered the credit union, saying nothing. They also had two duffel bags but did not display a weapon.
Some Cash Dropped
After jumping over the counter and spraying the tellers, police said the two men proceeded to an area where money is kept and filled their bags with cash before running out of the credit union. As they ran, several bundles of cash fell out of the bags. That money was recovered, police said.
Investigators declined to say how much money was taken, other than it was a "significant" amount of money.
The substance sprayed on the tellers—one of whom went to a hospital for treatment–is unknown. The robbers remain at large.
