DHAKA, Bangladesh–A two day Bangladesh Credit Union Forum was hosted here by the Cooperative Credit Union League of Bangladesh with a goal of building “strong and bold” leaders.
State minister for Rural Development and Cooperatives Swapan Bhattacharjee told the meeting such leadership qualities will help to strengthen the cooperative system across the country, according to New Age Bangladesh.
Swapan said Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina has strengthened the cooperatives system and involved people through projects such as “Amar Bari Amar Khamar.”
“We will have to make the cooperative familiar with the common people at the grassroots level through ensuring transparency, efficiency and accountability in our activities,” he said, according to the report.
He said Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman wanted to build a cooperative-based society to protect the farmers and general people from economic shambles, New Age Bangladesh added.
Also on hand for the event were Cox’s Bazar-2 constituency lawmaker Asheq Ullah Rafiq, Department of Cooperatives registrar and director general Md Aminul Islam, CCULB chairman and freedom fighter Jonas Dhaki and Association of Asian Confederation of Credit Unions (ACCU) chief executive officer Elenita V San Roque, among others.
