SPOKANE VALLEY, Wash.—Several credit unions have recently announced significant amounts of support for community organizations.
In Washington, with grants for 19 regional nonprofits, Numerica Credit Union said it has distributed more than $315,000 through the 2023 Numerica Charitable Fund.
The annual program partners with organizations that align with the credit union’s new philanthropic initiative, Numerica CARES for Kids, according to the CU.
As part of the announcement, Numerica also pledged $100,000 each to four nonprofits through multi-year grants.
- Family Promise, Spokane
- Safe Passage, North Idaho
- Women’s Resource Center, Wenatchee
- Communities in Schools of Benton-Franklin, Tri-Cities
“Numerica CARES for Kids means focusing resources to organizations that uplift children and families,” said Carla Cicero, Numerica president and CEO. “When times are tough, we’ve seen how these 19 nonprofits wrap themselves around families in need. Through Numerica’s Charitable Fund we are proud to support organizations who are making an impact in the lives of others.”
Numerica team members surprised the nonprofits this summer with customized mini-ATMs revealing the amount the organization was granted. The funds will be used to provide housing, meals, education and more.
Gesa Affinity Card Generates Funds
Also in Washington, Richland-based Gesa Credit Union said its 2022-2023 total school year earnings of its Affinity Debit Card Program exceeded $340,000 for partner school districts across Washington state.
The program provides support to local schools by generating funds for partner districts to utilize towards academic programs, technology needs, extracurricular activities, and athletics. The announcement was made at the annual Affinity Card celebration in Richland.
“Gesa takes immense pride in actively supporting education across Washington, and we are deeply committed to empowering both our students as the future of our communities, and our educators, who inspire them every day,” said Don Miller, president and CEO of Gesa Credit Union. “We are grateful to our members whose invaluable contributions play a pivotal role in our program and in everything we do, enabling us to continue shaping a better future for all.”
The Affinity Debit Card Program began in 2015, and since then Gesa said it has raised more than $1.34 million for the 35 schools with which it partners.
