WASHINGTON–The partial government shutdown and an early-week snowstorm have made for a slow agenda in Congress this week in terms of issues of importance to credit unions.
The only hearing of interest to CUs is on Wednesday in the Senate Committee on Aging, which will hold its hearing on “Fighting Elder Fraud: Progress Made, Work to Be Done,” at 9:30 a.m. ET in the Senate Dirksen Office Building, noted Eli Joseph, deputy chief advocacy officer with CUNA.
Separately, CUNA announced its political action committee, the Credit Union Legislative Action Committee, set a new record for fundraising during the 2017-18 cycle, raising $5.3 million. Trey Hawkins, deputy chief advocacy officer with CUNA, said the funds went to back 350 candidates who won their races in the most recent elections.
